Have you found yourself losing track of the days? Running out of activities and projects to do at home? As the majority of us throughout the state are now under stay-at-home orders, we have had to change a lot within our lifestyles.
Whether that’s ordering food for delivery or curb-side pickup, working from home, becoming the enforcer to keep your kids on task for their – now online – classes. Life has been looking a little more chaotic, and very different.
The best thing we can do is band together – from the safety of our homes – and try to create a new sense of normalcy. And in the meantime, why not tackle some of these home projects while you’re stuck at home.
1. Spring Cleaning & Organizing
While the normal spring cleaning takes place around this time of year, go a step further than your normal spring cleaning list provides. We have the time, right?
Use this time to clean the house thoroughly, right down to the grout in the tiles and the baseboards getting a nice wipe down. Re-organize your pantry, cabinets, linen closets, and the garage. Those big organization projects that would have otherwise been put off for the weekend, if we weren’t in a pandemic.
Add in full organization of your family’s closets, sifting through clothing and creating a pile to give away once businesses are up and operational. There will be plenty of people in need once we come out of this.

2. Paint & Rearrange
Projects involving any sort of painting take time, use this time in quarantine to get that painting done. Whether you want to paint a feature wall, or if you have been wanting to change entire room colors throughout, now is the time to do so.
While you’re at it, feel free to rearrange the furniture as you move everything around and see if there’s a better flow that can rejuvenate the space. Feel free to think about different layouts and changing things up. The new paint colors along-side the rearrangement will make it feel like a brand-new room!
3. Landscaping
Have you had a vision for your landscaping for months or even years, but never the time to get it done? Well the time is now. We’re in isolation, but the outdoors of our homes are not off limits. Make sure to adhere to the current guidelines in place to stay safe.
Getting a healthy dose of sunlight during the day – while the weather is still permissible – adding that flower-bed to the front yard, or starting your passion project herbal garden in the backyard is a great way to incorporate some fresh air into your day.
You’re not excluded if you don’t have a yard to work with, indoor succulents and plants can add the outdoors to your indoor space easily. Adding a pop of green to your decor and enhancing your indoor environment.
In the spirit of helping out your fellow neighbors, if you’re in the Wilmington area, find all of your landscaping needs through The Plant Place, where they’ve incorporated delivery and curbside pick-up during this time!
4. Furniture DIY
Take inventory of the furniture you have around the house, can any of your pieces be improved and brought up-to-date? Furniture DIY’s are an easy and affordable way to upgrade a piece you already have, or build a new piece entirely.
They can be painted, spray painted, knobs switched out, backings restored and redone. The only limit to furniture DIY is the limit of your own imagination. Supplies may need to be ordered for curb-side pickup or delivery, but this is a fun project that otherwise might be overlooked.
5. Update Fixtures
Fixtures are a small to-do item and get pushed back on the to-do list, but switching them out has a great effect on a room’s aesthetic. If you’re still sporting your home’s original fixtures and feel they need some sprucing up, this is a great era to get this project completed.
Not only lights are included, little things like door hinges, door stoppers, door knobs – all these can be cleaned, updated and give a consistent and clean feel to your home. In some cases, all you need is a bottle of black spray paint to tackle this project, at least for the hinges and stoppers.
Take this time to elevate your space, we can do a lot to update our homes while we are inside, and plenty more projects will be discovered as we continuously look around our surroundings.
