So far in 2022, there are no signs of the Mid-Century decor craze letting up, and you know what? I’m relishing this moment because as far as I’m concerned Mid-Century pieces and Mid-Century inspired designs are more than trends. I believe this style is timeless. The simple and understated Mid-Century accent chairs are easy to implement in a space, without having to convert an entire home to a new decor concept. 1950s record tables, dining buffet tables, and even nightstands can be used in all sorts of ways. Some like to paint these pieces, others refinish them, but no matter what they are stunning and add a lot of character to a space.
Let’s talk about some of the places around our community where you can score big when it comes to Mid-Century.
Here are a few of my favorite places:
Decades of Decor
I found out about Decades of Decor through the Facebook group Wilmington Hidden Gems. Someone suggested this furniture shop had plenty of statement pieces in their downtown location. Check out their Facebook page for more information as shopping is appointment only.
Habitat for Humanity Restore
You can find just about any furniture you need at Habitat Restore. Here I look for Mid-Century end tables, hutches, secretaries and desks, and even amazing chairs that could be reupholstered and flipped. With three locations in Wilmington to check out, you’ll have plenty of options and you never know what you will find!
Jess James + Co. Vintage
This shop is a very impressive menagerie of vintage clothing, but look around and you can find a few decor pieces as well.
More Furniture Shops
Wilmington has so many vintage furniture shops, a brochure guide exists dedicated to listing all of them. If I didn’t live here, I would probably come and visit the beach along with a giant trailer to bring furniture home with me. Check out my guide to Wilmington’s flea markets here, and some great furniture shops here.
Mid-Century Homes
As your realtor, I am obligated to tell you Wilmington also has a few Mid-Century homes and they come on the market every now and again. While they are hard to find, they are out there. Some exist within older neighborhoods like Middle Sound Loop Road, the Pine Valley area, Hampstead, and Scotts Hill. Contact me if you want to find Mid-Century homes around the Wilmington area.
