Got company? That’s OK! We’ve got you. We rounded up seven outings that will appeal to the whole family. From the beaches to downtown, these seven suggestions could help get everyone out of the house, into some fresh air and exploring our great community. Here are seven Wilmington Outings for those out-of-town visitors.
Fort Fisher
With multiple people in your party to entertain, chances are someone will want to be outside in fresh air and someone will be interested in history. Got any film buffs in your crew? Fort Fisher will check all those boxes. This state park has battle history, places to run around and explore on the beach and there is even an aquarium for those who want to stay indoors. Park here and drop everyone else off (you can head to the nearby Tiki bar if you really want to.)
Carolina Beach State Park
Just a few miles from Ft. Fisher, Carolina Beach State Park has miles of trails to walk, run and explore with the whole family. Everyone will need some fresh air if you are all in one house together for the holidays. Hit the trails here which wander through several types of natural habitat and run along some stunning views of the Lower Cape Fear River.Â
Wrightsville Beach loop
Oh so your family wants to see the beach? The Wrightsville Beach Loop is a walking trail encircling some of the highlights of Wrightsville Beach. There is a playground and park for littles or teens who want to play basketball or tennis. Strollers and bikers abound here. The loop also goes through some of the beach town’s most popular bars … so … well enjoy yourself responsibly! If the crew is hungry for more, Airlie Gardens is a short drive away. You won’t go wrong with a hotdog from Trolly Stop or a taco from Tower 7.Â
The Cargo District
This Wilmington hub is where I am finding some of my favorite foods lately. Park for free here and literally stay all day — we recently wrote a blog about how to do just that!
The Cotton Exchange
There are so many things to do and see in Downtown Wilmington, it can be overwhelming. But to keep everyone in your party happy, head to The Cotton Exchange. Browse through shops and galleries in this multi-level downtown mainstay. There is probably something here fore everyone. Parking is free for merchants too!
Wilmington Water Tours
Maybe the fam has come to visit before — but maybe you could spice things up with an entirely new view? Book a Wilmington Water Tours trip for everyone and see Wilmington from the water. These cruises offer up intel on history, folklore and even offer drinks.
Shop antique, vintage and thrift
I’ve always said you could spend several days in the Wilmington area just going along our antique shop trail. From vintage finds, high-end antiques and even thrift store scores we have plenty to offer.
Consider shopping in historic, downtown Burgaw and exploring their vintage shops along the square. For Wilmington shops, check out this shopping trail:Â https://www.wilmingtonandbeaches.com/things-to-do/shopping/antique-shops/
