Places You Need to Visit While in Wrightsville Beach

Here are some of our favorite, go-to spots in Wrightsville Beach.

Whether I am out shopping the farmer’s markets or dining with friends, my mission in life is to highlight all the incredible small businesses around our region that make the area so vibrant.

Wrightsville Beach is a quick drive away from wherever I am around New Hanover County. I’m always drawn to the crystal blue water, the multitude of water sports and the dining scene. Sure, there are some of the area’s best fine dining spots, but also the classic, quintessentially Southern Robert’s Grocery.

Their chicken salad, slathered on some white bread, makes for the perfect day on the beach.

Here are seven of my go-to favorite places:

My favorite outdoor activity: getting out on the water with Wrightsville SUP. Believe me, if I can get out there and love SUP boarding you can too. There are also SUP yoga classes, kayak rentals and more.

When I need some classic Southern picnic fare: As mentioned above, I head to the classic Robert’s Grocery (32 N. Lumina Ave.) right in the heart of Wrightsville Beach.

My favorite bar food: definitely Shark Bar. The team at this small-but-mighty-flavor place has put together a menu with craft cocktails and some of the best bar food around.

Favorite place to shop: The Wrightsville Farmer’s Market. Some things at this market not found at others — locally made sea salt and locally grown flowers. Swing by every Monday in the spring, summer and beginning of the fall.

My favorite place to see and be seen: The Wrightsville Loop. Bike, stroll or run this 2.5 long trail around the center of town.

My favorite fine-dining experience: Portland Grille. Jennifer Anniston is just one of the many celebrities who dropped by PortLand Grille on a night out while filming in Wilmington. The seasonal menu and aged steaks are always in style.

When I want to feel like I’m in my 20s: I head to the beach bars. A collection of bars along Lumina Avenue, also known as “the beach bars,” are a fun place to go for late-night trouble. I love them all, but King Neptune’s is a fixture.

These go-to favorite places are only a small portion of the amazing community that is Wrightsville Beach. What are some of your favorite businesses to frequent when you head to the area?
