This Wilmington Restaurant Is Redeeming Winter Right Now

Pho Basil serves Vietnamese staples like pho and Banh Mi, but plenty of appetizers, soups, rice bowls, boba tea, and more.

Pho Basil is helping me out – one bowl of perfection at a time.

Not much rivals a giant, hot bowl of pho during the midst of winter and a pandemic. This Vietnamese staple made its way to Wilmington years before it became a mainstream commodity and there is one place serving pho that has captured my attention — Pho Basil.

This small shop off South College and a few doors down from Saigon Market is my go-to spot for pho, despite there being several options in the area.

I really wanted to spotlight this business because owners Phang Do and Cindy Nguyen have taken a small space, family recipes, and created something the community adores.

Not only do they have pho and Banh mi, but a hefty appetizer menu, salads, vegan pho, fried rice, a range of Vietnamese noodle bowls, and boba teas.

I could go on about the exceptional dishes you should try, but I challenge you to head here yourself and use the entire menu as your bucket list and guide. Once you’ve tried their different pho options, maybe go for the seafood noodle soup (banh canh.) I would also love to brag about prices here for a moment too. Pho Basil is packed with college students and business professionals alike because their prices are hard to beat. Find Banh mi for just $5.99 and small bowls of pho for $9.99. They certainly do not skimp on quality here either, you can truly taste the difference.

Owners Nguyen and Do also make sure to utilize local produce and seafood from Snead’s Ferry to boot.

Before you wish away the next six weeks of winter, warm up with some pho at Pho Basil and tell them Andrea sent you!
