A look at what happens on a downtown Wilmington Trolley Pub night out with friends
The Arth Real Estate Group team felt it imperative to try out the trolley pub first-hand and finally see what all the fuss is about. We booked an experience with Trolley Pub Wilmington, where six of us pedaled along with our own “Trolley Pub conductor.” A two-hour journey through downtown Wilmington on a crisp and cool October night was — we all agreed — the perfect Friday night out while social distancing.
What is a trolley pub exactly? It’s a 14-person pedal-powered trolley on bicycle wheels and downtown you see a number of groups book them for birthdays, special occasions, bachelorette and bachelor parties and even sightseeing tours. It’s BYOB and an on-board cooler is ready for your stash.
So after our journey through downtown, here are a few tidbits we want to pass along:
Do not wait for an invite:
Just go book it now — no need to wait until a bachelorette party.
It was the perfect night out with friends and if you know any adventurers, this is right up their alley. This would also be a great night out for those feeling strange about going out to bars during Covid, but still feeling the itch to get out and have fun.
The trolley pub is not just for tourists:
Locals will get to see downtown from a totally new perspective and vantage point. We noticed all sorts of new things in a downtown environment we walk around in each day. As odd as it may sound, when you aren’t busy walking or zipping by quickly in a car, you may even notice buildings and features you had no idea existed. Plus, our guide was dishing out fun history stories along the way.
Pedaling the pub was easier than expected:
OK, so it WAS an actual bike seat, there is not much lounging and leaning back, but you only have to pedal as much as you want and an auxiliary motor is used to take care of the most difficult spots. That being said, some of us woke up the next day pretty sore, like we did one of those workouts where you “feel muscles you didn’t know you had.”
We felt really safe on the trolley:
We were buckled into our seats as we rode through the street, making all of us feel safer. There was one fun roller coaster of a hill during the journey through Wilmington’s mostly flat downtown, but we felt safe even flying down it. There were also still enough seats for us to practice some social distancing and spread out on the trolley — it seats groups of 14.
Our trolley guide made it about us:
Another surprise was how our guide created a custom experience for our group. We actually chose where our group would stop and selected the destinations.
Into sightseeing? Restaurants? History? The folks at Trolley Pub Wilmington will take care of you. When we made reservations, we shared a little about ourselves and during our trolley pub experience we took a break at Edward Teach Brewing where they were expecting us with our own private seating area. It seems most groups make two to three stops for 20 minutes each
